BEHIND IT ALL: The logo for the
18th SAMA
Source: lwmag |
To plan a successful event it takes time, energy, patience and commitment. Knowing that you are dealing with and the expectations of the event helps you know how to bring a vibrant and spectacular event, which will make all your delegates, target audience and all other stakeholders talking non-stop about your event. What does this all mean? Looking at this years South African Music Awards (SAMA), sponsored by MTN , they were unusual, innovative and something new as the MTN changed its Corporate identity by going Black and White instead of Yellow.
I think they have brought some change and a lot of people were amazed. They also made an informed decision regarding Presenters by having as many Hosts as possible instead of just two for the whole Ceremony. Companies took part by sponsoring the event, KIA Motors gave away 4 whipping new Cars to lucky people. The sponsors like Heineken, Edgar's, Sowetan and others also got a lot of free publicity as that is the objective of Sponsorship.

BRING THEM ALL: Zahara,
who won 8 awards on the 18th SAMAs at Sun City

Zahara was the person who got the most Awards, which were 8. Change was really made by the Organisers but it does not necessarily mean all people enjoyed and liked the change. Among other great artists who won were Micasa, AKA, Dj Cleo and many more.

I really enjoyed the SAMAS this year and think it was a job well done compared to last years SAMAs which were held in Monte Casino(Johannesburg Gauteng.)
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with you that this year the SAMAs were very much better compared to last years where some artists didnt have a place to sleep and others ended up not perfoming at all. Big ups to the organisers who did a fantastic job.
Deletei was personally impressed even thou there were little mistakes there and then but overall am happy with the change, and not every one is going to be happy at the end of the day because we are human beings
ReplyDeleteCouldn't have said it better myself, we are all human beings and have our different expectations hence we cannot all always be fully impressed. A few mistakes will always be there ofcourse but the organisers must be sure not to repeat them in their next event.
DeleteI must say the event was well-organised. The sponsors that participated proved that SAMAs or any event can be enjoyed when well-organised.
ReplyDeleteI am very impressed that atleast there is someone who recognises the good work done by the sponsors. I think they are also happy with how the event ran smoothly and them ofcourse getting free publicity.
DeleteI really think the SAMA'S were okay not wow because the change they did was too much and for the mere fact that House music is one pf the genres that put South Africa on the map with Dj's like Blackcoffe but its amazing to see how these guys were sidelined from the whole event.
ReplyDeleteI agree that a lot of changes were made jjust like the MTNs Corporate colours which changed from Yellow to Black and White. It is said that change is good hence I think the organisers also had the event a bit different this year.
DeleteWow it certainly was well organised even though events do come across hi-cups there and there, that's just the nature of it. The greatest thing about an event is when people are still talking about it even after it has happened because it shows that it had an impact on people whether negative or positive.
ReplyDeleteTrue that, the aim of an event is to change peoples perceptions and live them talking non-stop about it and I think that is exactly what the SAMAs did.
DeleteWow it soo nice better than last years...well organised and I think its because a lot of artists were not happy at first and they somehow voiced their concerns and it really worked. So all in all the event was not that bad it was very chilled and phenomenal.
ReplyDeleteI also think its very important for people to be given a platform to voice their honest opinions and feedback so that organisers know exactly where to polish, change or sustain. We saw the proof of that in this years SAMAs.
DeleteI have to say well done to organises they really did agood job this year, i am already looking forward to next years sama hopefully they will be more enetrtaining like this years.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward too and cant wait. The organisers must surely bring something new and interesting again next year. This years SAMAs were better compared to last years and we expect next years to also be better compared to this years.
DeleteI must say this years awards were realy exciting and a big thank you to the organisors they really did a good job and they brought change within the event.
ReplyDeleteIndeed Ngcongo.Let us just hope that they dont spoil the the good image they earned with this years awards next year, but make it even better and bigger.
DeleteThe SAMAS was great wow wish i could of been there to see it live. Must of been a great experience for those who could make it.
ReplyDeleteI also wished I was there but atleast they were not the last, we still have a chance of going next year and experience the heat. Come next year...Come the SAMAs.
DeleteI managed the glimpse of the SAMA's and am truly elated for Zahara's achievements; I would strongly advise her to get a best lawyer to represent her interest in all of this, perhaps she must get herself a personal private banker who know a thing or two about different investment potfolios that would not harm her. What I am saying is that she needs to leverage the moment and not allow her producers to be rich alone by her victory. I am quite happy with the change of the corporate identity of MTN, I was starting to get tired of the same yellow colour, thank you MTN.
ReplyDeleteA big bow to her, she really did amaze a lot of people by taking home a huge number of eight (8) awards. She really proved that hard work pays no matter your background. A lot of people were quite amazed with MTN going black and white but I must say it was not a bad idea after all. Change is good.
Deletethe event was well organised, and i must say big up to zahara hope she gets more achievements in the future.
ReplyDeleteIf she continues with the love and passion that she has for Music, then she is definately going to get a lof more of achivments than now. She must just not loose focus or let people get her out of order like getting into drugs.
Deletewell organised event, someone should just tell some of the hosts to mind their language next time! Unathi got me disapponted!
ReplyDeleteUnathi dissapointed me too, she has been in this industry for quite a long time now and I really did not expect hat from her. But otherwise I am sure you would also agree wih me that the other hosts were very good.
DeleteThe opening of this years SAMA awards was rather quite unusual for it was not exraordinary but big up to Zahara for the 8 awards after the scandal of being cheated by her record label
ReplyDeleteWell, we all know that the Media is always looking for negative things to report about our artists. Zahara denied all that was written in the papers and one thing I really liked about her response is that she cares less about what the Media says.
DeleteUnfortunately I did not watch the SAMAs but from what I heard they were better than last years ones and that Randall Abrahams did a great job. Im just glad they were held at Sun City where they belong.
ReplyDeleteSun City is really the home for SAMAs. Its a bigger and most beautiful place for spectacular events like the SAMAs. You can watch the next years SAMA but to tell you something, you really missed out by not watching this years.
DeleteFor all organisation to actually manage to survive in every developments of this days they need to adapt in every change taking place. From 2012 SAMAs i can say the event co-ordinators did a good job by trying new things as last year's SAMAs were bad.
ReplyDeleteLast years SAMAs were really bad and kept peopele talking for Months. Its a good thing that the SAMA organisers met the expectations of their target audiences this time around.
DeleteThe organisers out-did themselves but maybe they went a little overboard. I mean nine presenters? That was a bit too much and they didn't gel well.
ReplyDeleteI get your point but at the same time I think it was a good idea to have many presenters because having just two presesnters for the whole Ceremony can be very boring and tiring.
Deletei was not impressed at all with these awards i feel that they were not on point
