BEHIND IT ALL: The National Science Week logo. Source:www.ai.org.za |
Once again in 2012, The National Science Week (NSW) took place in more than 89 sites including science centres in all nine provinces. The National launch was on the 28 July 2012 and the focus week was from Monday 30 July 2012-Saturday 4 August 2012 .The event was led by the Department of Science and Technology (DST).
The University of Johannesburg (UJ) got a fat chance of hosting the Launch at one of their four Campuses, Soweto Campus. The theme was 'The role of Science and Technology in Economic Development'. The University of Johannesburg and the National Science Week were in almost everyone's lips before the actual date of the launch. This event got a lot of publicity as it was on various Television programmes like the Qbase 28 before the launch.
I think one of the good things is that at least 6000 learners from schools in Gauteng attended and they were exposed to things that interest and educated them. Parents, Community members, Guests and VIPs also got a chance to network and be the witnesses of this wonderful event. The day of the launch gave people a chance to build new and maintain old relationships.

indeed it was a successful event, the partnership between University of Johannesburg and department of science and technology was "SPOT-ON", of which gave UJ lot of publicity.
ReplyDeleteA lot of publicity indeed because a lot learners now cannot wait to finish matric and come to UJ. UJ was everywhere during the National Science Week launch even on Morning live...real publicity indeed
DeleteIt was a wonderful event and i would personally take part in it again. It was such a great honor to be in the presence of such successful people.Should be an example to young people that you never have to may diplomas or degrees because hearing someone mention your success to the world is something you will really feel proud of.
ReplyDeleteYou know what Michell I would also not even have secong thoughts if I would again have an honour to be part of such a well planned event. As upcoming Public Relations Practitioners we learned a lot from the whole event.
Deletethe event was for good course, uj got the publicity i am very proud to be in this institution.
ReplyDeleteYou know Nokuthula I am also very proud to be a student from UJ because it has proven that there is nothing that they are not capable of doing.Big up....
DeleteIt is humbling to be part of this university because it shows that as Uj students and staff we are more than competent and for me to be part of the team that made it possible makes me proud.
ReplyDeleteIt really is an awesome feeling to be part of a winning team which is UJ. We all are prouod of our Institution more especially some of us who were part and parcel of the whole event, it was such an amazing experience.
DeleteIt was a successful event and well done to UJ (and all the staff members and students who took part in this national even). And in return the University of Johannesburg received major publicity.
ReplyDeleteThe University of Johannesburg is now in everyones lips, thanks to its staff members and students who always make wonders in making sure that their Institution is in the top.
DeleteIndeed this was a successful event, everyone benefited form this event. UJ got the publicity and the students got to know more about science.
ReplyDeleteTrue that Dineo, a lot of students didnt know more about Science and this event was just an eye opener for many of them. I myself was exposed to a lot of interesting issues around Science that I was not aware of on that day.
Deletei would say this event was a great way to influence a lot o student to see a great deal of what scienc does for ou country an UJ had the opportunit to have student come to their university as the event was also held at Univrsiy of Johannesburg soweto campus
ReplyDeleteA real great way indeed Grace, as there were also stalls to show the learners exactly what Science is all about. Inside the hall on the day of the Launch experiments were also done to show the power of Science to the Learners.
DeleteThat was the most successful event ever and i would like to thank the organisers and those who participated during the event because they made it successful.
ReplyDeleteOne of the most succesful events, you can say that again Mavelous. And Yes Thanks to the Organisers who did their level best and went all out to make sure that the event was a real success. Basically, Big ups to everyone who made the event be what it was.
DeleteWow it was a very nice and chilled event indeed. I am greatful and thankful that the government is really trying ti reach out to the Soweto citizens. What I like about UJ is that, it is always trying to accomodate students from all retrospects. Big-up to UJ and the Department of Science and technology.
ReplyDeleteCould'nt have said it better myself Refiloe. It is such a nice thing that the Government is going all out to make sure that the learners get the neccessary information they need at the right time, so they would take wise Career decisions.
DeleteIt is a good thing that uj got involved in this event, it made it possible for them to regain their good repution in the South African community.
ReplyDeleteYou can say that again Michell. After the Stumpid that happened at the beginning of the year UJ's reputation was ruined a little, this event atleast tried to make people see UJ with another eye.
DeleteThe event was a success in regards to handling such a big number of learners in an urban area, no accidents were reported, it shows that the event was well-planned. Publicity was surely created for the UJ organisation and relationships were definately built.
ReplyDeleteIts all thanks to the wonderful group of Marshals from UJ and the Community members who volunteered to make sure that things went well. Almost 6 000 people attended the event but it went perfectly well with nothing for people to complain about but be thankful.
Deleteuj really did get free publicity for the price of R00.00
ReplyDeleteThat is what you get for being the best out of your competitors, Big ups to UJ.
DeleteUJ was put at the top and they made the event a successful one, imagine that publicity they obtained.
ReplyDeleteI can imagine it Themba, remember this event was all over like on SABC2 Morning live, 5FM, Metro FM, q Base28 and the list is endless.
DeleteThe event was a success through team work and through our honourable leaders as i think that they deserve a credit, but a big well done to the department of scince and technology...the event was an opportunity for everyone as everyone was given a chance to prove themselves such as uj marshal, parents and many more.
ReplyDeleteHard work and determination are the results of such an amazing event. A well done indeeed to all the people who were involved especially those involved in planning.
DeleteIt was a good collaboration for the University and the DST, everything was planned accordingly, which means that there were hiccups on the event and that everything went smoothly. I believe that the publicity gained on that day was exceptional... NSW made lot of students realise the importance of science in our society
ReplyDeleteIt was a great thing that learners were made aware of the importance of Science and Technology in our societies especially girls because there is a small percentage of women in this field. I also like the fact that the event was held in the township.
DeleteThis was a very successful event which also helped UJ get some free publicity
ReplyDeleteYes indeed, UJ got a lot of publicity with this event and i am sure they wouldn't mind to be part of it again in the next coming years.
